At Oxford Ice Rink, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality skating lessons in a relaxed, fun environment, with fully qualified instructors to help you every stride of the way, whether you’re looking to learn to master the skill or just become more confident on the ice.

Learn To Skate

Our lessons are run by our fully qualified instructors for Adults and Children over the age of 3.

The courses run in conjunction with the British Ice Skating Association Skate UK programme, consisting of levels One to Eight, with advanced levels Bronze, Silver and Gold following on.

Course days and times:

Adults - Mondays 7.30pm and Sundays 10.30am - £49.90 per month.

Children (under 17) - Saturdays 9am & 10.30am and Sundays 10.30am - £43.35 per month, (children over the age of 12 can also do Monday evening classes).

1-2-1 Lessons

Follow a personal learning plan either working towards the BIS badges or just learning new skills.

Great for whether you are a beginner, nervous about starting out, or more advanced and want to learn some new tricks, one to one or in a small group and at a time that suits you.

All our coaches are fully licenced by the British Ice Skating Association. Booking will need to be made directly with a coach, for information please contact us using the button below.

Skate Basics

Our Skate Basics sessions are designed for children aged between 5 and 16 that wish to learn the basics of skating. These sessions also include access to the rest of the public skate session.

What do we get with a Skate School Membership?

How do the ice skating coaches deliver lessons?

The coaches will meet everyone on the ice. Everyone will start in the beginners/assessment class unless the participant has already completed levels with the NISA (National Ice Skating Association)

Each level is based on a series of skills which you will learn and then master with the aid of your coach. Once you have been assessed and passed all the skills you will be able to move to the next level.

When I arrive at the centre, what do I do?

Where do parents/guardians go while the lesson is running?

Can you use your own skates in the lesson?

You can borrow skates from our skate hire (free with skate school membership), or you are welcome to bring your own. Please note, if you are bringing your own skates to bring to your lessons you should ensure they have been sharpened before stepping onto the ice. Although we do not offer skate sharpening at the Ice Rink, we do have details on where you can get them sharpened. Please ask a member of staff at the Ice Rink for more details.

Does the Skate School assess?

Are badges given out for each level?

I would like to have private lessons, how do I go about this?

Private lessons can be arranged with our skate coordinator, please call the rink on 03301098777 to speak to someone who will put you in touch with the skate coordinator.

You'll need to let the skate coordinator know your ability or NISA level if you know it, your availability, duration of the lesson and your discipline. The skate coordinator will match you with the right coach.

Private lessons cost £14.50 per 15 minutes. That will be paid directly to the coach at the end of your lesson.

If your child is on Skating Lessons with us, you can grab a discounted Fitter Together membership at Ferry Leisure Centre, Barton Leisure Centre or Leys Pools and Leisure Centre from only £27.30 a month.
